The IT sector leads the way as hiring intentions by Australian employers hit a four-year high as the latest forecasts for 2016 show that there is a renewed level of confidence among employers.
Hiring intentions are at their highest level since 2012, with 17.1% of employers looking to increase permanent staffing levels between April and June this year, and with the ICT market leading the way with contract hiring.
The trend for employers to hire ICT contractors rather than permanent employees continues, with the latest report on Australia’s jobs market revealing that the ICT sector has the strongest contract employment outlook of all professions.
With employees working longer hours, greater pressure on employer budgets and more stringent headcount approval processes in place, Australia’s ICT employers are bracing for what they see as tougher business conditions this year compared to 2013.
The IT industry remains doggedly optimistic - with most IT companies planning to maintain or increase headcount over the next three months. According to Hudson ICT it may signal even more of an end-user move to outsourcing and cloud computing.
ICT professionals with the right level of cloud computing experience are commanding salary premiums of 25-45 per cent compared to their cloud-free peers.
